Quit The Showboating Warns Bruce

In a throwback to last seasons inability to find the net, Steve Bruce has warned the players to kill teams off and quit the showboating when we are leading.

With last season still fresh in the minds of all connected with Blues it seems like Bruce understands the fans frustrations and being made to wait until the final whistle before knowing we have secured all 3 points. This was no more evident than in the game against Hull which itself followed a plea from David Gold for the team to give somebody a big thumping to lift spirits and send a statement of intent to not only the fans but also the rest of the league.

Blues found themselves comfortably 2-0 up and had a number of chances to kill Hull off, but instead Hull were allowed back into the game and in many ways we were lucky to end the match with the points.

Speaking to the Mail Bruce said:

‘We’ve gone 2-0 up and we had two or three great chances to kill the game off. Then we got sloppy.

‘You can’t just take your foot off the gas and do a bit of showboating like we did.

‘When they got their goal, they could have got something out of the game in the end. It would have been harsh on us, but we got a bit of a lesson out there.

‘If you don’t take those big, big chances to go three or four up – which we had – you always run the risk of being punished.

‘We all wanted to go on and get more goals. We had the chances: McSheffrey got through, Nafti got through thanks to a great piece of skill from Bendtner.

‘You need to take those chances, then the game does become comfortable. They weren’t really a threat up until they scored, when we gave a horrible goal away, when we were faffing and farting about on the edge of our box.

‘Then everybody went edgy. In the end, they could have nicked it, which would have been harsh.’
