No Bust Up – Just High Emotions

Steve Bruce has rubbished reports suggesting he had a number of arguments with the board of Birmingham City.

The Blues boss has been backed by the board despite rumours that Gold and Sullivan were split on whether to keep Bruce as manager.

Bruce went on holiday to Portugal for a week at the end of the season and led to all sorts of whispers and suggestions that he had a bust up with the board.



Bruce told icbrum ‘There was no rift, no boardroom power struggle – nothing. We had an amicable meeting (a couple of days before the end of the season). People will go ‘he’s just saying that’. But that’s the truth of the matter. It was all about what the way forward for this club was. It was also for them to identify what we were going to do with the nine players out of contract and on loan.’


‘We then all thought that we would take stock, take away our emotions. Everything was a bit raw, we were angry, hurt, disappointed so soon after relegation. When you are all of those, you maybe say some things you don’t really mean. So we took a little heat out of the situation. I went away and we agreed to have a chat again when I came back. Of course, everybody then started speculating about my situation. Unfortunately, the stuff about the meeting was in the public domain.’

Admitting: ‘I suppose with a manager who gets relegated that kind of thing is always going to be there. The bottom line is that I am staying here and I am looking forward to helping us mount a serious promotion challenge. We’re all agreed on that, we’re all looking forward.’

The polls on various Blues sites haven’t been so supportive of Bruce, the majority on Vital Blues said the manager should have been sacked but he hasn’t been so we may as well – as we always do – get behind him and hope that he can mount a serious promotion challenge.
