Time for the special computer that crunches the numbers to determine the final Championship positions for the season of 2017/18.

Last season the Octopus feature was a late arrival for the Championship – it was off having its tentacles given a Brazilian for all I know.

Then again I still don’t know why I call a number crunching supercomputer an Octopus but some things are probably best left unasked.

In any event here are the updated Championship predictions for the season of 2017/18 after all sides have played 29 games of the campaign.

Who goes down?! Who is the current favourite to lift the title this year?

Well you don’t have to guess.

With all playing 29 games in the Championship in the season of 2017/18, the current favourite to lift the title are Wolverhampton Wanderers with 104 points. Derby County sit in second place on 91.

The Play Off spots are also pretty nailed on if the predictions are to be believed – Aston Villa, Bristol City, Fulham and Cardiff City. Boro lose out on goal difference as they sit level on points with Cardiff.

At the other end of the table it’s also pretty nailed on with Birmingham City, Sunderland and Burton Albion all predicted for the drop. Bolton Wanderers in 21st place escape by four points.

The one thing that can’t be ignored though is there is a hell of a lot of football still to be played even though we find ourselves in February and sides that have started well may fade away and others could find form as the months tick by, but this is a bit of fun – I wouldn’t bet your house on it!

The predictions are a reflection on the season so far, and absolutely nothing more, and in most cases the next fixture day could cause wholescale changes to the table.

  • The only thing that can beat the octopus is what teams go for wins and what teams settle for draws , hence the reason why SC was a bit upset at the end of the Sunderland match because blues took their foot off the gas at the end …this board needs to wake up to what’s needed at stans …you can’t write a list of players needed in the transfer window and then go for anything but what’s needed most , Our need has been for goals for a long time now and Vassell was a good signing , but one goalscorer doesn’t make a goal machine . But hey this team is professional and for me the table is upside down ….except for goals ….

  • David, sadly this table is about right.Tomorrow will be a good example as to how far we have come. They haven?t scored in the last three games,so law of averages is that they will against us.What SC must do is to plan a goal against but equal what they do. I don?t think he has that ability.Yes,we played well against Sunderland but they didn?t have any plan.Sheffield certainly will have one.If Adams is fit then play him with Gallagher.Key player tomorrow may be Lowe who must play alongside Keifenbeld and Gardner.Davis I don?t think will be fit.
