Mido deal resurrected?

Steve Bruce has stated that he still feels that there is a chance that he can secure Egyptian striker Mido on a permanent deal. However, Sunderland and Middlesbrough have also joined the chase and his eventual destination may come down which part of the country he will prefer to ply his trade in.

Boro have matched Spurs` £6m valuation of the player and have been given leave to speak to him. As they have already lost Viduka and rumours still abound about Yakubu, they may well feel that a striker of his calibre would be a valuable addition.

Whilst interviewed on radio recently, Bruce maintained that the hiccup in the deal with Birmingham was not about personal terms, but rather about various clauses in the contract.

Mido, despite having a “complicated” personality that has seen him move through a lot of clubs so far in his career, is a highly gifted player whose size and strength would make a good addition to the Blues` squad. Even if he only stayed a season, his strike rate and assists could make a vital difference to survival.
