Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was happy at getting a point from the local derby game with Wolves on Sunday, but he wasn`t too pleased Craig Gardner`s behaviour which got him sent off.

It was a dive that got the Blues midfielder sent off, but McLeish pointed out that there was no need for the first booking.

McLeish told Sky Sports: ‘Craig was silly, the one for me that really annoyed me is he put his hands up after O’Hara clattered into him, so that was disappointing.

‘I told the players not to react to fouls and we had to be mature about this and let the referee deal with it.

‘As soon as you start that stuff, you get a yellow card and put yourself under big pressure.’

But McLeish was more pleased with the way his side reacted after Gardner had gone off. Before the incident Blues fought hard to get back into the game after going a goal behind and were rewarded when Seb Larsson refused to give up chasing a long ball, capitalising on a mistake in the Wolves defence.

McLeish added: ‘I’ve got to applaud a fantastic result. There was some grit and, at times, we did quite well with 10 men.

‘We had to pick our moments as it was not easy to get forward with numbers, but when we picked our moments we looked really dangerous.’
