Key player Vs. Barnsley

Birmingham City are back in action this Saturday and will be hoping to bounce back from two successive defeats in Gianfranco Zola`s opening couple of games.

The team that stand in our way is Paul Heckingbottom`s Barnsley who are currently in a purple patch with four wins from their last five matches.

One of those wins came against Blues at the start of the month and, if we are to get revenge against the Tykes, then I think that David Davis will be key to it.

He’s been magnificent so far this season and has certainly been one of our top performers in whatever position he has played in.

Under Zola so far, Davis has played as part of a midfield three and I expect this to be the case at Oakwell on Saturday.

He might not be blessed with great technical ability but I have definitely seen an improvement in his passing and control of the ball this season.

If he can match his hard work and determination with the technical aspects of the game then I think he can really influence proceedings against Barnsley.

He’s the sort of player that can lead by example and raise spirits and, after four defeats out of our last five, I think we will be looking to him for inspiration.

If we get in the faces of our opponents and defend from the front then I don’t see any reason why Blues can’t take all three points away from Barnsley.

It’s crucial that we don’t try and overplay like we did in some parts against Derby and move the ball a lot quicker than we have done.

Davis is someone who can press high due to his energy levels and athleticism so, if he can execute this at the right time, then we could well be onto something.

It`s crucial that Zola gets that first win under his belt and, with other teams flying high, Blues must pick up the points required to stay in touch with that top six.
