The day is nearly upon us. Blues make the short trip to Villa Park on Sunday to take on Aston Villa in the Second City Derby in Harry Redknapp`s first game in charge.

What an occasion for him to come into just days after being appointed as Gianfranco Zola`s replacement.

The torrid run of form over the last few months under Zola means that this clash is made even bigger by the fact that Blues are now fighting for their lives down at the bottom of the Championship.

Just three points separate us in 20th place and Blackburn who currently occupy the final relegation spot.

Blues need points and what better way to get them than at Villa Park. Steve Bruce`s side may not have anything to play for this season but there’s always something to play for in the derby.

The motive for them is to take the bragging rights and push us even deeper into the relegation mixer but if we do take a point or maybe all three from the game, then I think that David Davis will be key to it.

I think that this is the obvious choice given that he’s probably been our player of the season this campaign and he turns up when it matters in the local derbies.

His goal and celebration against Villa earlier in the season coupled with his goal away at Wolves has made him the derby day specialist.

He’s a local lad and knows what this game is all about and what it means to the city of Birmingham. There’s no doubt he`ll be pumped up for it and he`s someone that can drive us to victory.

He has the physicality and drive in the middle of the park that can really allow us to take control of the game. If he can win those midfield battles right from the get-go, then it will only spur the rest of the team on.

Blues need warriors in these final three games and it`s time again for the likes of Davis to step up and put his body on the line for the cause.

I can only imagine the scenes if he picks the ball up 25 yards out and smashes it into the back of the net to send the Blues fans barmy, here’s hoping.
