Kerim Frei is eyeing up a return to his former club Besiktas, according to reports in Turkey.

The 23-year-old, a £2.2m January signing, has struggled to establish a place in the first team at St. Andrews under former manager Gianfranco Zola and hasn’t featured at all under Harry Redknapp.

Frei was quoted as saying ‘I am unhappy in England, I want to wear the shirt of Besiktas again”, by a Turkish newspaper.

However, a source close to Birmingham City told Vital Birmingham – ‘Kerim is currently on his summer holidays and remains very much a Birmingham City player’.

Upon joining the club, Frei told British media that he was using Blues as a ‘stepping stone into the Premier League’.
