Kerim Frei is eyeing up a return to his former club Besiktas, according to reports in Turkey.

The 23-year-old, a £2.2m January signing, has struggled to establish a place in the first team at St. Andrews under former manager Gianfranco Zola and hasn’t featured at all under Harry Redknapp.

Frei was quoted as saying ‘I am unhappy in England, I want to wear the shirt of Besiktas again”, by a Turkish newspaper.

However, a source close to Birmingham City told Vital Birmingham – ‘Kerim is currently on his summer holidays and remains very much a Birmingham City player’.

Upon joining the club, Frei told British media that he was using Blues as a ‘stepping stone into the Premier League’.

  • Some of the pictures I’ve seen recently suggest that he could do with losing a few pounds. He’s not had a long enough run to show what he can do but equally never looked too impressive when he has played. Might be best for everyone if he moved on. Get some money back and free up his wages too

  • happen he would have been better in the prem …but I have a problem with skillful players not making it in blues team ..it could be by having too many physical players in the team could be the reason why in the second half of the season we fail to keep up with early form and fade …surely with a couple of excellent passers in the side would save a lot of running over the length of a season …

  • With the right coaching I think he could be an asset. He has a lot of ability and some nice touches on the ball, but was just thrown in to try and make something happen under Zola. No direction or playing to a system, just run at em and see if something happens. Its ok saying he wants to go but somebody needs to want him first. Bottom line is that if he wants to go then lets see if we can get some of our money back.

  • I feel somebody will have the sense to send him to the gym build up is strength and aggression …and once again leave blues with more egg on their face than little lions …

  • Stewart,Frei and Maghoma all similar with one thing in common-no goals. Three need to go and fresh approach needed. Harry will have it sorted along with a dominant CH to replace Shotton.

  • Maghoma will score goals over a whole season when fit. Stewart hasn’t really had a chance, like Frei
