Leeds United have apparently given up on their pursuit of Clayton Donaldson after the club made it clear he would not be allowed to leave this summer.

The Yorkshire club are now turning their attention to Uruguayan, Felipe Aventatti. Manager Uwe Rösler is now onto his third target of this transfer window after missing out on Chris Wood, who looks set for Wolves, and Donaldson who is too important to Birmingham for them to sell.

With the start of preseason now underway for most teams, managers will be stepping up their efforts for players, which means moving down their list of targets to plan B, C and even D.

Birmingham City fans will be very happy with this news given the out pour of concern following the news that clubs were circling for their star lone striker.

Understandably, the supporters were worried, and some may still be. The Midlands club have been unable to hold onto their talent since relegation from the Premier League in 2011. The finances within the club dwindled, but it does now appear that the club are able to do as they claim – reject bids for the players they wish to keep.

A similar situation also arose with youngster Demarai Gray, where Birmingham continually fended off bids from Bournemouth to hold onto their talented left sided winger.

Clayton Donaldson was crowned both players’ and supporter’s player of the season following his efforts in his maiden season in royal blue. The 31 year old scored 15 league goals as Birmingham finished 10th in the Sky Bet Championship.
