Birmingham boss Chris Hughton watched his side end the year on a high by beating Blackpool 3-0.

The win means that so far this season Blues are unbeaten at home and this result must stand them in good stead for the New Year and the task that awaits if they want promotion.

Hughton was pleased with the way his side performed and thought they were well worth the 3-0 score line.

‘I am delighted with the performance but it takes goals to make you feel that more comfortable,’ said Hughton to Sky Sports.

‘We always looked a threat from the wide areas where Burke and (Jean) Beausejour did very well. Until the ball goes into the net it is always tough.

‘We scored at the right time and we were able to maintain that pressure in the second half.

‘It’s only the second time this season we’ve scored three in a game. It was a really good performance but it would have been nice to have put away another couple.

‘We now go into the new year on a high note and when you look at the other results it was a game we had to win.’
