Chris Hughton has been in a meeting with Birmingham City over the vacant managers job at St Andrews.
Blues are looking to appoint the next man as early as possible so he can begin preparing to get the club back into the top flight at the first attempt. And with Hughton already doing that job with Newcastle United, he is the ideal candidate to take over the hot set.
McLeish parted company with the St Andrew’s outfit to take charge of bitter local rivals Aston Villa and bookies that are still taking bets are making Hughton 1/8 odds on favourite for the job.
The respected coach’s efforts in the North-East have brought him to the attention of the Birmingham board along with Gianfranco Zola who has also put his name forward for the job.
