The slim hope that Birmingham City had of bringing Jack Hobbs to St Andrews has gone.

Lee Clark was very interested in luring Hobbs to the club as part of the deal that will see Curtis Davies go to Hull in the next few days.

But with the financial restraints on the club mean that Blues would not be able to get near the sort of wages that Hobbs would want, especially now that he has seen a pay rise after helping Hull win promotion to the Premier League.

And on top of that, Hull wanted a fee for his loan and that just can’t happen.

Davies will still be leaving for the KC Stadium as planned, but Clark must look for any players he needs in the loan market.
