Birmingham City have discontinued their interest in AEK Athens winger Vangelis Platellas after contract talks broke down between club and player.

The 25 year old players in Football League Two in Greece and features mainly on the left hand side of midfield. It is understood that Platellas is being allowed to leave Athens on a free transfer after just one season with them.

Is it really a blow to not be signing a League Two Greek player?

Lee Clark could be in the market for one more attacking player and with particular preference for finding a left footed attacking midfielder as Blues seem short of such a tactical advantage. David Cotterill is left footed but considers himself a right midfielder, as doe`s fellow new addition Mark Duffy who is right footed.

It is likely that talks have broken down between the player and club for financial reasons. However, with the player coming from Greece it could also be family and potential settling issues that would put a player off moving across Europe, despite the apparent step up in competition quality.

Birmingham are keep to continue the search for another player following the official departures of Chris Burke and Nikola Zigic, yesterday.
