Graeme Howlett, Editor of West Ham United website Knees Up Mother Brown has his say on Gianfranco Zola.

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL OPINION OF ZOLA AS A MANAGER?

He’s a lovely guy and he’ll be the best footballer on your training ground but there are questions marks regarding his ability to manage effectively.

WHAT STYLE OF PLAY DOES HE LIKE HIS TEAMS TO ADOPT?

He’ll have City passing the ball on the deck, lots of one-touch, swift movement, often centrally. This is a textbook Zola goal:

WHAT WENT WRONG FOR HIM AT WEST HAM?

Your old owners! Had Sullivan and Gold not purchased the club in 2010, Zola wouldn’t have been fired. And subsequently replaced by (the utterly inept) Avram Grant.

DOES HE HAVE THE ABILITY TO BE A SUCCESS AT BIRMINGHAM?

Regardless of the level, a successful leader has to be able to manage egos and make unpopular decisions. There is a perception that Franco is a little ‘too nice’ to succeed in a such a cut-throat environment.

DO YOU THINK HE WAS A GOOD APPOINTMENT FOR BIRMINGHAM?

It seems that Gary Rowett was doing just fine, so on that basis and with the above considered, it may be that for City fans it was a case of better the devil you know. Though I wish him the very best of luck.
