Harry Redknapp will meet with his Birmingham City players for the first time this morning and will set them a target of four points from their remaining three games to ensure Championship safety.

The 70 year-old was confirmed as Blues’ new manager yesterday, replacing Gianfranco Zola who resigned on Easter Monday.

His first task will be to galvanise the squad ahead of Sunday’s huge second city derby at Aston Villa.

Blues currently sit in 20th position, three points above third bottom Blackburn Rovers, who play on Saturday. If results go against Blues, they could be in the bottom three for the first time this season before they kick off at noon the following day.

After their first Wast Hills session,  Redknapp and his assistant Steve Cotterill will be officially unveiled at a press conference this afternoon.

The club have confirmed the departures of Zola’s backroom team Perluigi Casiraghi, Gabriele Cioffi, Andrea Caronti and Sebastiano Porcu. Goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock will remain in his his role though.
