Birmingham boss Lee Clark wants his side to give it maximum effort against Leeds United on Saturday.

Blues have got themselves six points away from the drop zone and in most people’s eyes that will be enough to keep the side in the Championship for another season.

But Clark wants to see his side get to the stage where it is mathematically impossible to go down as fast as they can.

Not too long ago there was talk of City reaching the playoff places, but Clark dismissed all talk of that, preferring instead to get the side safe above all else.

And a win against Leeds this weekend would boost Blues no end.

Clark said to reporters: ‘We are not quite mathematically safe and it would be nice to take care of that with a good result in front of our own fans on Saturday.

‘We owe them a big performance because we have not been at our best in recent home games.’
