Charlton’s start to the season has got plenty of people talking. They have won four games and draw six of their opening fixtures.
Things have changed at the Valley, with Boss Bob Peeters installing a whole new system of structure. Everything is very organised and scheduled and this is reportedly what is turning things around down there.
Each Charlton player is briefed heavily on their opponent, making sure that they know exactly what to expect on game day. It would seem that by the time Blues line up on the pitch today, Charlton will have an extensive game plan prepared.
The Belgian explained on BBC.co.uk ‘You have to prepare the players. Physically we are very strong and the players give everything they have.
‘It starts off the pitch when you give people structure and they know what the schedule is.
‘They know everything about the opponent as well. That is the most important thing – that you give a lot of info to your players so they know what they can expect and what they have to do.
‘We play the way we think we can get a result.’
The Championship is a tough league, but the Belgian’s system and day to day running of Charlton certainly seem to be getting the best out of his players early on.
How long will this last? well Mourinho has a similar philosophy and that has been working for over a decade now.I’m just hoping Birmingham are just as prepared as their opponent’s today.
Blues may also find some gains in swapping it up a bit, playing a different and unexpected system or possibly playing some selections Charlton won’t expect. What ever Blues decide to do, today’s game will be tough.
