Steve Bruce has said he will let the dust settle following the actions of Captain Jonty after being substituted.

Johnson was on the end of a tirade of abuse from the crowd after he threw away his captains armband and then his shirt after Steve Bruce decided to substitute him in the match against Crystal Palace.

Spekaing to the official site, Bruce said:

‘Damian is bitterly disappointed and frustrated at his actions tonight.

‘But we’ll let tempers calm down because a little bit of time is needed.

‘I’ll see him on Monday morning and the appropriate action will be taken and we will make a statement on the website on Monday.

‘I don’t think it was the sutuation of just being taken off, but it was the ironic cheers of the supporters.

‘But he’s a professional and he has to handle that.

‘I’ll have a good long look at the situation and take the sting out of it.

‘He’s been a magnificent servant to the club and I rewarded him with the captaincy because he epitomises what this football club is all about.

‘He’s got a hunger and a desire and a determination.

‘Yes, he’s not born with the silkiest of skills but he gives you everything he’s got and I’m as disappointed with his actions as everybody else.

‘Of course the crowd are entitled to their opinions.

‘But the cheers he got were ironic considering what he’s done for this football club over the past five years because he’s been a fantastic servant.

‘The situation will be dealt with though.’
