Birmingham City finished off the Championship season in style by winning 1-0 over Bolton away from home. Rowett’s men fought on right up until the last game of the season to clinch 10th place.

It was loanee Robert Tesche that opening the scoring on 42′ for it to remain that way right up until the end of the game, taking all 3 points for Birmingham.

Bolton may well feel as if they should have done more this game, as a team their performance was well below par and looked like a team already on its holiday.

Most of the home sides shots were off target and despite having plenty of the ball they never quite fashioned the breakthrough they needed.

Blues saw plenty of joy from playing through balls in behind the Bolton defence, and were good in taking possession back in tackles and when they did have the ball it was in Bolton’s half rather than sitting back with it.

All in all I would describe it as an efficient performance that brings to a close a very impressive season.

Seasonal expectations were positive after what was a good preseason, however that quickly washed away as Blues struggled to get to grips with playing in the Championship.

Then, along came Gary Rowett, after Panos Pavlakis took the decision to terminate Lee Clark’s position as manager. No one would have quite expected the turn around to happen so quickly or go on so well over the season – but it has done.

Where to aim next season is a topic for another article, but for now – Blues have well exceeded anything we thought possible at the start of the season.
