Blues Have Made A Statement

Steve Bruce feels the signings of some bright young talents has sent out a warning to the rest of the Championship as Blues mean business in bouncing straight back up into the Premiership.

Bruce told Sky Sports News: ‘Because of letting nine players go, with the wages and all that, and the owners having got a few bob, we could do this. I think they wanted to make a statement. We don’t want to be in this division again, we don’t want to be here. We felt harshly treated last year, but whatever’s gone has gone.’

Adding: ‘I don’t want to be in this division, the supporters don’t want to be in this division, certainly the board don’t and the players don’t want to either. But we find ourselves here, we have to roll our sleeves up, get ourselves out of this division and put the club back where it belongs.’

I’d still rather us in the Premiership obviously, but with the new signings and all this fighting talk, I’m quite looking forward to the new season now, maybe the shock has subsided and been replaced with new found optimism!

Birmingham have been backed by the bookies as favourites for Promotion, Bruce says Blues now have to ‘live up to that and make sure we don’t think that we can stroll around.’ Must admit, if they had remembered not to stroll around last season, we wouldn’t be in this division. Damn, those goes the theory that I’m over the shock.

Bruce also warns the division is ‘tough’ adding ‘We have six or seven derby games for a start.’
