Blues fans should be happy with the clubs transfer business

With the transfer window now officially slammed shut, Birmingham City fans can breath a sigh of relief as none of the clubs so called bigger players were sold off for a price which may have come under question.

As well as that, fans should also be happy with the players that the club have brought in, and for the price they have been purchased at, considering what other clubs in the division are paying for player cough*Villa*cough!

The clubs first signing of the summer was former loanee Robert Tesche. The German midfielder has so far turned out to be a solid midfielder who we all knew about so when it was announced, everyone was right to be happy about it.

After Tesche was announced, another former loanee, Ryan Shotton, was announced. This deal carried some weight with it with Blues paying close to £500,000 for his services.

Shotton’s arrival meant that Blues had two very strong centre halves for the 2016/17 season, something which we had been missing and following some outstanding performances at the end of last season, it was another deal we could all smile about!

Then came the big one! Sheffield United youngster Che Adams finally got his move to St.Andrews and when it was over the line, everyone who is a part of the club, management, fans and all the staff must have said to themselves, thank god that is over the line!

At a small price of £2 million, Adams looks like he could yet be another bargain player and if all pans out at Blues, he could be the best buy in the Championship money wise.

We’ve brought ourselves a young English striker who plays fantastic football, knows where the goal is an has a superb eye for a pass for almost one eighth of what local rivals Aston Villa have paid for their new striker…lets all take a moment to laugh guys! HA!

Shortly after the Adams deal finally got over the line, Blues announced their fourth first team signing of the window with Scottish winger Greg Stewart joining from Dundee for a reported £375,000.

Although we haven’t seen what Stewart can offer us just yet, Blues fans will be aware that he is a player for the very near future and over the course of the season the 26-year-old winger will certainly get his chance to shine.

Then it came down to who Blues and Rowett could add to the squad on deadline day and although some fans weren’t too happy with the players coming in, we have to give them a chance before we judge.

Burnley striker Lukas Jutkiewicz joined on a short-term loan deal running until January 2nd, and his arrival wasn’t met with applause, but boos from fans.

Yes, he may not have the greatest goal scoring record but he is a player that Rowett has obviously been keeping an eye on and he has waited until the final day to get the man that he wants and lets just give him time to prove himself before we jump to conclusions.

Just moments after Jutkiewicz was announced, AFC Bournemouth left back Rhoys Wiggins came through the St.Andrews door, also signing until January 2nd, and his arrival was met with cheers and not jeers.

His arrival means that Blues finally have some competition for current left back Jonathan Grounds. Wiggins has a good level of experience and that is probably why Rowett has brought him in but only time will tell whether he can knock Grounds out of the first team.

Overall, Blues fans should be happy with the business that has been done during this transfer window, but if I am being brutally honest, I would have loved to have seen another striker come in just to offer us a little bit more competition but hey ho, here’s to the January transfer window!
