David Cotterill is to miss the next month with a knee injury he picked up in a 0-0 draw with Blackburn. Gary Rowett has admitted that losing the Welshman is a blow to his plans.

Birmingham have been told the best course of treatment is to let it heal naturally which by the sounds of it is something that takes longer. With the considerable impact going through a player’s knee it is one Blues must be careful with.

At this moment in time, Cotterill will be aiming to return in time for Boxing Day. Sheffield Wednesday host Birmingham on 26 December. In the meantime he will miss big games against Brighton, Middlesbrough and Cardiff.

All that is left now to discuss is who is to make that right wing role his own. Gray to move over? Soloman-Otabor perhaps? Rowett will certainly be dressing this up to the team as a chance for someone to really take their opportunity.

Who would you want to see on the right wing if Cotterill’s injury puts him out for even longer?
