Gary Rowett seems to be ready to start pressing ahead with signings as the countdown to the start of the season began today. The Birmingham manager revealed in a recent interview that he is looking forward to this part of the season.

Birmingham are yet to really make their mark on the transfer market but that does not suggest that there are not deals on the horizon. News of the Rob Kiernan deal falling through today suggests there are deals much closer to completion that the media are aware of.

Kiernan was a known target but we were generally unaware that a fee and contract had been agreed. It does appear that this transfer was quite far down the line before Blues pulled the plug.

In terms of budget, it is still not known just how much Birmingham have to spend in order to compete for signings. However, there are rumors that the numbers aren’t quite as small as Birmingham fans might think.

There are reports Birmingham have an agreement in place with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of Robert Tesche. The German spent the end of last season on loan in the Midlands.

Birmingham seem to be quieter on the media front under Gary Rowett, it could be a by-product of Colin Tattum joining the club or it may be a policy that Rowett prefers.

In summary, I’m expecting some deals to come through in the near future. The club seem to be closer to targets than the wider population is aware of and we may be pleasantly surprised by what they are able to spend.
