A news feature on the official Birmingham City website does a question and answer session with players for the academy on a weekly basis. Today, we have Beryly Lubala in the hot seat.

Name: Beryly Lubala
Date of birth: 08.01.98
Place of birth: Democratic Republic of Congo
Position: Midfielder or striker

Q: What was the first team you played for and were they any good? A: Leicester Nirvana and yes they were very good.

Hopefully, he’ll have the same success at the Blues!

Q: Do you have a nickname? If so, what is it?
A: Yes, it`s Bez.

A common theme of these answer sessions, is that footballer’s have very unoriginal nicknames for each other!

Q: How were you spotted by Blues?
A: In a trial game.

The youth directors set up these trials regularly which shows how keen they are to find new talent. A very good sign.

Q: Who has been the biggest influence on you since joining the club?
A: Gareth Holmes and Steve Spooner.

The managers in the youth set up are often said to be inspirational and the knowledge they have is often mentioned by the academy players.

Q: What are your strengths as a player?
A: My attacking play.

A very good quality in a striker…

Q: If you could improve one part of your game what would it be?
A: My left foot.

Q: What would be a successful 12 months for you now?
A: Becoming a regular starter for the U18s and playing for the U21s.

Ambitious young man who knows what he needs to improve and what he wants. Very refreshing.

Q: How much interaction do you have with the first team?
A: Not much really.

This is disappointing. The youth need to see success and need to have help from the first team through ability.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you`ve been given?
A: You can always do better.

Anyone else think that his parents will have given him this advice?!

Q: What is your favourite pre-match meal?
A: Porridge.

Q: Tell us something about you that we wouldn`t know?
A: I`m a good singer.

Q: Which team did you support as boy?
A: Arsenal.

Hopefully he’s grown to like Martins now…

Q: What is the best goal you have ever scored and could you describe it?
A: It was a 30-yard screamer for the U16s against Liverpool.
