Just three games into the new season and already we have a team in a clear lead at the top.
Nottingham Forest were quick off the mark in taking the lead at home to Bolton, it took Jamie Mackie just 85 seconds to have Forest in front and that paved the way to an easy 3-0 victory with further goals coming from Andy Reid and Henri Lansbury.
Bolton made the job a little easier for Forest when Darren Pratley picked up his second yellow and reduced the away side down to ten men.
Nine out of nine points for Forest and looking strong early contenders.
Reading and Watford had a bit of a humdinger down at the Mad Stad, Reading were 3-1 in front at one time and looking like they had stopped Watford’s charge,
But that man Troy Deeney was on the mark again to make it 3-2 and right at the death substitute Diego Fabbrini raced clear and buried an equaliser.
Blackpool and Middlesbrough also shared a point each at the Riverside; Paul Ince’s men looked like they were making the journey back to the seaside with three points in the bag after Chris Bashman had given them a late advantage. But Boro are not known for giving up and Marvin Emnes hit back with an injury time equaliser.
Over in Yorkshire, the sheep were safe for the morning as a big crowd went to Elland Road to see Leeds take on local rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
A first half goal from Kamil Zayatte had Leeds fans worried but Ross McCormack was on the mark to give Leeds a point.
Wigan winger Callum McManaman lasted just eight minutes after coming on in the game against Bournemouth down by the sea. He filthily ripped up Brett Pitman with a challenge that befits Wigan’s style of play and was shown a red card.
Lewis Grabban grabbed the only goal of the game, although Pitman did miss a penalty.
Barnsley and Charlton both picked up their first point of the season after a 2-2 draw at Oakwell.
Chris O’Grady netted twice to put the home side in command, but they threw the lead away when Jordan Cousins and Simon Church hit back.
Lee Clark’s old side Huddersfield saw off the challenge of Millwall with James Vaughan heading home the only goal of the game. No-one likes Millwall so we don’t care.
Nigel Pearson saw his Leicester side come away from Pride Park with all the points after a tidy 1-0 win although it was an own goal from Derby keeper Lee Grant that settled things.
Harry Redknapp’s QPR bored everyone to death at Loftus Road in the game against Ipswich, the only highlight of the game coming when Tom Hitchcock grabbed the only goal.
And finally Burnley had a reasonably easy afternoon against newly promoted Yeovil, but the first goal didn’t come until the 73rd minute courtesy of substitute Kevin Treacy, Sam Volkes added a second later.
