4 Goal Hero Speaks

DJ Campbell has spoken to the press following his impressive four goal haul against Burton Albion, and he’s convinved Brucie’s youth element will reap the rewards.

‘There are a lot of younger guys in the team now, the only older one is Bruno N’Gotty, the rest are young, which is a good thing.

‘It’s about hunger, youth, enthusiasm and I think the team has got that now. The more we play together, the better we will get. I think you saw that in clips, that we are more vibrant.’

With at least one more striker to be added (Collins John presumably) and Forssell waiting to reclaim his place there is certainly going to be enough competition upfront next season.

‘It’s going to be tough. All I can do is my best in training and hopefully if I’m playing that’s brilliant. If I’m not, I will give my support on the side.

‘But as I said last year, I’ve come to get into the first team. Despite where I’ve come from in non-league, it’s not just to make up the numbers.

‘I’ve come from nothing, but I’ve got hunger, I feel I can do it. It has been a big jump and everyone keeps telling me. But I try not to think about it. I need to be focused. This is such a big club.

‘As we saw last year, you need to be on your game every week. If you’re not, you can go fail and go down.’

Following the Burton game he said:

‘I didn’t prefer one goal over the other – I will take them all, it’s the best feeling when you score and you win.

‘Even though it was a friendly, getting into a winning mentality is the main thing. If you do that, hopefully you can take that forward into the season and start on a high.’

If Campbell continues in that form then our striking options could be a joy to watch next season. One thing we fell down on was not having options and choices when players were injured or not performing. Bruce is certainly setting that right this time round and I for one am beginning to get a little excited for a change.
