Well that certainly didn’t go to plan, did it?
I did suggest that Pep Clotet should make a few changes, but I didn’t think he’d go that extreme.
Birmingham crashed out of the Carabao Cup last night as a heavily weakened side fell 3-0 to Portsmouth at Fratton Park. The amount of changes showed us what he thought of the cup competitions, so we can probably expect the same when it comes to the FA Cup in January.
Although the score-line may look disastrous, the Blues weren’t without their chances, as The Birmingham Mail put it, “[Craig] Gardner could’ve had a hat-trick from an accumulated 80 yards tonight”.
So how did the result play out on social media?
Well, a lot of fans were quite frankly disgusted with the team selection. As one person pointed out, Birmingham won the competition back in 2011, so to treat it with such ‘disrespect’ was a slap in the face to the supporters.
You treated fans with contempt tonight!

All for giving the kids a go, but we got physically bullied and outplayed tonight. And to not play with a striker is ridiculous and naive from Pep. #bcfc

Couldn’t have shown the fans more contempt if you tried. If they’d known that team selection was coming you wouldn’t have had half the fans there and you know it.

They’ve shown disrespect to the competition which presented this club with its’ greatest achievement in 2011 and utter contempt for the fans (like myself) that travelled down to Portsmouth for the match with that team selection. I’m only giving criticism where it’s rightly due.

However, there were a few fans who were quite happy to live with the result if it meant that some of the younger players were given a little boost in their development.
Say what you will from the result: Some great passing play from the youngsters tonight. The inexperience shows but I didn’t expect to win with our U23s.

Good effort by the young lads, showed glimpses of what they can do and it’s promising. #KRO

Good blooding in session for a lot of our youngsters. Now to focus on the real job in hand. Bellingham looks promising, the kid has a bright future.
