Luke Turner picks out a key man for Saturday’s ding dong derby…

Blues return to St Andrews on Saturday as they take on Wolves in the first derby match of the season where Gary Rowett`s side will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start.

Wolves have the same record as Blues in their opening three games, winning one and drawing two, so both teams go into the game in fairly high spirits.

Like any local derby match, it will be competitive and I’m sure the tackles will be flying in from both sets of players.

So, my key player for this match is ex-Wolves midfielder David Davis.

He’s had a really strong start to the season and already found himself on the scoresheet, netting in Tuesday`s 1-1 draw with Wigan.

Matches like these are ones that Davis thrives off and, if I were Gary Rowett, he’d be one of the first names on the team sheet for this clash.

His energy and bite in midfield will be crucial for us in winning that battle in the middle third which will allow us to gain a foothold in the game.

If the game needs a lift then Davis will hopefully provide it with a crunching challenge or a drive forward with the ball.

He may not be the best passer of the ball but it’s likely that we could see a scrappy encounter, in which case, will suit him better.

If Rowett opts to keep the 4-3-3 formation, then Davis will have more license to cover more ground and get up to support Clayton Donaldson which will be very important if Diego Fabbrini doesn’t start.

Obviously, Davis is less known for his goal scoring exploits but, if he’s gets a chance, wouldn’t we all love it if he smashes one past Ikeme in front of the Tilton!
