Zola’s transfer waiting game could cost Blues

When asked about January transfers, Gianfranco Zola told bcfc.com- ‘At the moment we are not very active (transfers) and we`re active in seeing and working with what we have’.

Very worrying words.

With the transfer window just four days away, the Blues manager needs to get the ball rolling. January is a time for slim pickings and inflated fees so playing the waiting game will only make life difficult for Zola. His strategy should be to muscle in on his first choice targets as early as possible to give him the best chance of landing a player or two.

The fact that transfers haven’t been discussed at length, or haven’t been ‘very active’, worries me. Less than a week before the window opens, Zola should have a list as long as hisĀ  (albeit not very long) arm.

It’s clear to see that for all Blues’ effort, endeavour and willingness to adapt, change won’t come easy to a lot of the current crop of players. Now in 11th, six points off the play-offs, the club must act quickly or accept another mid table finish.

This squad is limited. Very limited. We should either play to their strengths or bring in the players who can play this newly formed style.
