Going into Saturday’s game against Brighton, Blues fans shouldn’t expect changes en masse. Gianfranco Zola confirmed in his press conference that having only one full day to prepare the team for the fixture makes it difficult to change things fully.

Zola will be taking his first training session with the players this morning ahead of Saturday’s 5:30pm kick off.

The Italian was correct in saying that changing too much too soon can be more damaging than good. Although, the starting line-up may include some of the fringe players not given much game time previously by Gary Rowett, the side will generally have a familiar look about it.

New dawns could be on the horizon for players often overlooked. The likes of Viv Solomon-Otabor and Greg Stewart could use this situation to their advantage whereas others players to whom Rowett showed loyalty could see their places under threat.

Such competition could be good for the team but can also have an adverse effect if dropped players become dejected.

Come Saturday evening, all eyes will be on the team sheet, Zola’s first one as Birmingham City manager. But don’t expect too many surprises.
