Nikola Zigic will have to make do with a position on the bench when he is eventually cleared to play for Birmingham City.

The Striker has rejoined Birmingham after failing to find a new club and he will start as a tactical ploy from the bench towards the end of each game.

Zigic has missed pre-season and it is believed by the coaches at the club that he needs some time to get back to full match fitness.

In other aspects of the signing, Gary Rowett believes that his enthusiasm for the move was enough to bring the player back into the fold. Rowett is a keen man manager and see’s the big man’s desire to rejoin as a key element to the deal.

It is not believed that Zigic is on any more than the current wage cap although we are currently chasing this fact up for a more definite answer.

At this point in time Rowett does not feel that Blues could attract this calibre of player for the kind of money that the club has on offer.

Rowett has been instrumental in getting better performances out of players like Paul Caddis so it could be reasonable to assume more is to come of Zigic.

Lee Clark struggled to get to grips with the big man at times but it is unlikely that Rowett will suffer the same fate.

Zigic cannot player at Blackpool this weekend but should have a visa in time for Reading’s visit to St Andrews.
