So it’s official. Harry Redknapp is the manager of Birmingham City.

After saving us from the drop into League One, ‘Arry will oversee a summer transformation which will hopefully result in Blues challenging for the play-offs.

Redknapp led Blues to safety through organisation and simplicity. He identified the strengths of his squad and set them up in a way they’d understand.

Yet when Redknapp starts to build his own team and moulds them into his preferred shape and style, don’t expect Blues to sit back and ruggedly defend for their lives like they did against Huddersfield and Bristol City. ‘Arry likes his teams to attack as competently as they can defend.

We’re all set for an interesting summer. Players will come and go as money is invested to improve the team. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Leading Birmingham City into the play-offs will be a difficult task in a division that includes some big clubs. The likes of Aston Villa, Leeds United, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Norwich City – three clubs from the current top six and one other club relegated from the Premier League – all with the same eventual objective.

In Redknapp, Blues have a highly experienced manager who knows what the Championship is about. He knows how to build a team. He also knows how tough next season will be.

Let’s sit back and enjoy the ride. In Harry we trust.

  • Fantastic I think I will be renewing my season ticket after all. Also just want to add Gardner looked 100x better under Harry playing in the correct position with a full preseason under is belt he will be a asset in the midfield. With 6-7 new Addison’s We can have a team that can compete at the top half of the table. Come on you Blues.. KRO.

  • Yes I agree. With Abraham,Loftus-Cheek,Daryl Murphy and Samba to start with,we would have a great chance. Would also like Murray from Brighton who I don’t think will start many Prem.games.

  • Absolutely fabulous news. Let’s hope he can keep Cotterill and Groves as his assistants as I’m hearing Cotterill is still thinking it over. Cannot wait. The future is bright – the future is blue.

  • I feel Harry will have realised that the current squad have found this Champ.season almost a bridge too far.Perhaps four of the current first eleven will be in his mind to start next season but the remaining will imo,be replaced. Davis,Gardner albeit good players may not get the guaranteed nod as they have been used to.

  • Interesting to hear Moyes warning Defoe that it will be hard for him to make the England squad as a Championship player. Is Moyes referring to us by any chance?

  • Shane Long and Defoe my dream strikers for next term. Forget any big lumbering men up front from now on. Pace and more pace the byword with a strong Lazaridis winger.

  • Brooklyn, I assume Moyes is referring to Sunderland seeing as they’ve been relegated. We have absolutely no chance of signing Defoe.

  • Rob.Of course you are right-just my wishful thinking. However, what odds Deeney coming? he has always dreamed of playing for the Blues. Not so far fetched or is it.
