Carson Yeung was today jailed for six years for laundering HK$721 million through Hong Kong bank accounts.

Yeung was convicted on yesterday of five counts of laundering between 2001 and 2007.

Graham Harris SC, mitigating for Yeung, said this was a “significant fall from grace”.

He added: “He came from humble beginnings. Through his own hard work and significant entrepreneurial skills, he rose through the ranks.

“He`s gone from rags to riches and he is likely to return to rags.’

Yeung bought Birmingham in 2009 and resigned as the club’s president and and director last month.
