Yet another club show interest in Birmingham forward, departure growing more likely – Report

|

I think we can officially label this one as an ‘imminent departure’, don’t you?

Isaac Vassell’s move away from St Andrew’s has taken yet another twist. Alan Nixon reported yesterday that there was yet another club interested in signing the 25-year-old. With Swansea City and Luton Town already in the mix, it appears as though Cardiff City have also shown an interest in making an offer for him.

It’s gotten so close to being done in fact, that Vassell was withdrawn from the squad to face Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup last night. Although given the way the result panned out, it may have been worth giving him a run-out after all, could have given the Blues a better chance of winning.

Is it just me or is it a bit odd that there’s suddenly a huge desire for Vassell? I mean his goal record isn’t that impressive, so they must obviously see something that I can’t.

However this is excellent news for Birmingham, the fact that more clubs are after him means that we can instigate a bidding war over him in the final hours of the transfer window. Although I suppose technically it has already begun if Cardiff have made a bigger offer than their South Wales counterparts.

Although Pep Clotet did admit last night that the club had accepted a bid from the Bluebirds for his services, that doesn’t mean that the deal is done and dusted just yet. If we look across the city with what happened to Aston Villa last year and their failed attempt to sign Joe Bryan when Fulham came in at the last minute, there’s always the chance that another club could come in with an extra couple of hundred thousand pounds.

There are set to be plenty more incomings in the next couple of hours according to Clotet, and this transfer looks crucial to getting the funds together to make them happen. Will there be a late twist in the tale though? Let’s hope not, or the club could be stuck with someone they clearly don’t have a lot of faith in.
