Would this Sheffield Wednesday striker fit in at Blues?

Following the announcement yesterday afternoon that Sheffield Wednesday had signed Barnsley striker Sam Winnall, it got me thinking, what forwards do the Owls have that they aren’t currently using.

And after remembering back to last seasons crushing 2-1 defeat to the Owls that pretty much ended Blues’ hopes of getting into the play-offs, I remembered one man who I thought could work in the Blues squad.

If you haven’t already guessed who it is, then let me enlighten you. I think Birmingham City and Gianfranco Zola should make an ambitious approach to sign Gary Hooper.

As controversial as this may seem, Hooper is still only 28-years-old and he has vast amounts of experience in the second tier of English football and to me, I think he would be a fantastic signing for Zola.

The Italian has already stated that he wants to bring in players who can improve the squad immediately and I personally believe that Hooper would be somebody that would certainly add to what we already have up front.

From what I remember last season, Hooper was the reason we lost both games against Wednesday, and although he has only just come back from an injury, I believe that he could become a key component in what Zola is trying to achieve here at Blues.

With Winnall now signing for the Owls, they have the likes of Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri who will be fighting for their place in the starting 11 and from the outside looking into the club, I can’t see Hooper getting back into that team.

Therefore, Wednesday might actually look at offloading him this month and if we can get him for around the same fee that they paid for him, which was in the region of £4 million, then I believe we would have got ourselves a great deal.

Hooper has always been a handful in this division and under the guidance of Zola and his coaching staff, I believe he could reach his full potential in front of goal.

Blues fans, would you like to see the club make a move for Gary Hooper this transfer window? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
