Worried Fans Could Protest

Over the past few weeks a new movement of fans has emerged calling themselves the BCFC Fans United Protest Group.

The group are to peacefully protest over the sale of the club and the current state of the finances. This is to include the lack of investment in the club.

How peaceful will their protests turn out to be?

There is little way to predict the answer to that question. The leader of the EDL regularly admitted that their protests got out of hand and turned violent.

I am not suggesting this will be the case, but I am pointing out any protest always allows the radicals to go and cause some unrest. I point to the pitch invasion after winning 4-1 at home to Blackburn all those years ago – The goals of our own stadium were pulled down, ridiculous!

If the group are to have a positive effect they need to protest but most importantly control their group.

The Facebook account for the group has over 1000 members and 250 + Twitter followers. The numbers warrant some attention but thus far there is no where near enough, protesting too soon and with too few may kill the movement before it even gets started.

There is a sense of urgency about this movement, they made a statement saying that something needs to happen before its too late. It does seem like a protest could be some time soon.

In principle I agree that the fans need to be heard and I don’t mean by the club, the people at the club are just staff. This protest needs to be taken to the clubs owners and that is so difficult because they are often based elsewhere.

I’m sure many Blues fans are going to be watching and hoping this movement makes an impact in regards to the sale of the club, as do I.
