Wolves progress past sorry Birmingham

It`s Wolverhampton Wanderers who take on Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup after Blues local rivals knocked out Birmingham on Tuesday night.

Andy Keogh and Sam Vokes fired in goals either side of half-time to send Birmingham reeling out of the competition. And its a bitter pill to swallow for Blues fans to get knocked out by the club that recently replaced them at the top of the table.

Not a great deal to note in the first half except that Wolves dominated the game before Andy Keogh got onto a ball flicked through by Michael Kightly who beat Maik Taylor from ten yards out.

Birmingham might have had a penalty when Marcus Bent went down in the area but his fall wasn`t convincing referee Howard Webb. And soon after Liam Ridgewell thought he had scored only to see his effort cleared off the line by Kightly.

There was a bit of fortune about Wolves` second goal, the ball bounced off the ref as Blues were attacking and the visitors were able to break and it was that man Kightly again who crossed for Sam Vokes to make it 2-0.

Cameron Jerome was unlucky to see an effort crash against the crossbar as Blues tried to get back into it.

But Wolves hung on and its them that progress in the competition.
