If reports are to be believed, Newcastle United are showing an increasing interest in Che Adams. With Newcastle`s financial muscle significantly stronger than Blues`, Gary Rowett must act quickly to secure his main target.

Of course, Rowett may have made the observation that Blues simply cannot afford to increase their offer – only he knows the exact figures he is juggling. In conclusion of that observation, other targets may be more within reach – again, only Rowett will know.

But if Blues are genuinely planning to make a higher offer for Adams, they must do so before the North East suits enter the negotiating table and blow Blues out of the water.

Blues are crying out for a young, versatile forward with a bit of quality, Adams fits that description perfectly. He can play as a striker or slightly wider in a three and could offer the perfect partner and right hand man for Clayton Donaldson.

The need for goals within the ranks was evident once again at Easter Road on Sunday as Blues crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Hibernian. While you cannot read too much into pre-season results, the lack of cohesion and creative edge was a concern as we head towards the Championship season opener on 6 August.
