Wiseman: Birmingham Have Hope Again

Birmingham City’s Vice President, Michael Wiseman, has spoken out about the condition of the club and given tremendous credit to the staff behind the scenes at St Andrews for holding the club together during its difficult period.

Since the arrest of its former President, Birmingham City have been to the brink and back. The club revealed, eventually, its financial distresses and just how close it was to going out of business.

Panic player sales followed as the club was stripped down to its bare bones in order to keep its doors open and it’s team on the field. At one point, as I still believe was the case for much of last season, almost all of the clubs operating capital was spent on players wages.

“The outlook is a lot clearer now,” Mr Wiseman told the Birmingham Mail. “We have got to give Panos a lot of credit for that.

“Birmingham City Football Club on its own is being run very, very well – and I can`t give enough credit to the staff at St Andrew`s for that.

Panos Pavlakis must be given credit, quite rightly so. As soon as he came into the club he met with a collection of our news sites to discuss the fans concerns and assess just where it had gone wrong with Pannu – that was a perfect start in my eyes. We put concerns to him and the club has completely changed the way it deals with the fans.

If Mr Pannu wanted the fans on side he should have taken some advice from Mr Pavlakis before acting the way he did. I would hope that had the relationship between board and fans been maintained the attendances wouldn’t have suffered so much.

Speaking about when the fans might be able to expect an end to this whole saga Wiseman said “At least now there aren`t any smokescreens, what will be told is the truth and there is a plan of action.

“I think it`s going to be very complicated and messy.

“To be fair to Carson he has had a lot of problems – and perhaps not had the best advice either, but he is still a major shareholder. Eventually he will have to acquiesce.’

Mr Wiseman raises an interesting point here, one cannot simply expect Carson to walk away after he has invested over £100 million into the English club. He won’t get his money back but the process involved for him to get as much as he can back presents a long and winding road.

“Last season the tide did turn a bit and we can see a bit more where we are going.

“Since Gary has come in we have got the playing side a bit better a bit as well. Now I think there is hope.”
