Window Shopping

After being promised reinforcements in January, it`s been a pretty quiet transfer window so far. But why are certain blogs criticising Gary Rowett – why the panic?

Lee Clark was often criticised for signing anyone who was willing to join. But with Rowett, it`s about quality not quantity. I doubt there are many Bluenoses wishing to see signings of the Brian Howard, Brek Shea and Aaron Martin mould, so credit to Rowett for biding his time and not jumping in with both feet.

With James Vaughan being the only ‘new` signing so far after a decent loan spell, it`s understandable why fans are desperate to see the squad strengthened.

With Blues not a million miles away from a play-off berth, standing still would be suicidal. But so would wasting a huge chunk of a limited budget. The window remains open for another fortnight and I fully expect at least two further signings, although not in the next few days.

Bringing in new faces to any business or company is a difficult task – it is no different for a football club. It`s wrong to think it`s as simple as making an offer, offering a contract, done.

While Blues remain open to bringing in new blood, tabloids will continue linking any available player to the club. It`s important not to believe everything you read.

As I understand it, talks with a defender came to nothing last week so Rowett returned to the drawing board.

Rowett wants to add to his squad as much as the fans want to see it happen but having a little patience is key. I`d trust Rowett to get the calls right.
