Will He Gray Or Will He Go?

The lure of the Premier League may prove too much for youngster, Gray, who has been linked heavily with clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United. As a boyhood fan of Manchester United, I am sure it`ll be a dream come true for the youngster however, it can often turn sour.

Wilf Zaha entered Old Trafford believing that he would be nurtured and allowed to blossom under a regime that has led to young players being given opportunities such as the Class of `92.

However, the continuous pressure to succeed now rather than in the future often leads young players in this modern era of football to be sacrificed at the big clubs for proven players. At championship level, these players are worshipped by fans. They are the big fish in a small pond and they thrive on this. In bigger clubs, they are the small fish in a pond full of sharks, and this is the major difference.

If I was Gray, I would prove myself at Birmingham over the next few years, before hoping to secure a big money move at the peak point in the career, not at this developmental stage. It is unhealthy for these players, who just sit on the bench of teams or get loaned out.

However, Joe Hart was once a Bluenose favourite and now he has made it. He appears on Head and Shoulders adverts like a trooper and has secured the England spot as first choice goalkeeper.

Therefore, sometimes the move does pay off.
I witnessed Gray in the last game of the season applaud the fans from the moment the final whistle went, until everyone else had gone in to have a shower. The cynics amongst you may say he didn`t want the shower, but I believe he was saying thanks to the fans; a final goodbye.
