So, we meet again.
This weekend’s game brings us face to face with one of our former players, but this time he will be appearing in the dugout.
It’s fair to say that Lee Bowyer has done an incredible job since taking over at Charlton, taking them from League One to the Championship and starting off incredibly well in this division. Plus when you consider all the shenanigans that he has to deal with from the boardroom, then I feel he deserves a little bit more extra credit.
However, we Birmingham fans remember him more as a player. He signed for us back in winter of 2009 on loan before making the deal permanent that summer and went on to make 94 appearances for the club in all competitions. Although the abiding memory of is time here will obviously be the part he played during that fabulous League Cup winning campaign of 2010/11.
So when the Blues fans were asked to share their abiding memories of the former midfielder on Twitter earlier today by journalist Brian Dick, they were all the happy ones.
Best box to box midfielder I have seen down blues, just ran that midfield and comes with loads of attacking ability ????????

One of the best signings we ever made. Consistent with some huge goals along the way.
Makes you wish we’d got him when we first went in for him years before, until a daft fan petition stopped it.— Adam Hennessey (@9_Hendo) September 11, 2019
He was a great player for us I remember all the blues fans didn’t want him at first they were moaning, but he’s was a great all round midfielder and always committed.

Loved him- filled a void that we’d had since Savage left.

Between him and Ferguson in the middle of the park, they bossed games! Loved his energy, proper box to box player. That goal against West ham oh and that dink against Wolves. Class

He was a great player for Blues. Shame he didn’t arrive at the club sooner!

I wonder if this means he’ll get a nice round of applause from the away fans on Saturday? I should hope so.
