After weeks of Chris Hutchings enjoying the sound of his own voice in the press, Paul Jewell and Wigan have finally lodged a bid for Emile Heskey.

Jewell has confirmed that an ‘official’ (about time) offer has been made for our 28 year old misfiring striker.

Speaking to Wigan’s official site, he said:

‘It shows our ambition that we’re targeting some top Premiership performers. (I believe that quote has more to do with other targets myself)

‘Emile is a proven performer at Premiership and international level and we have made what we consider to be a very good offer to Birmingham City.

‘It is not normal for this club to comment on targets until the player has signed. (Really?) But in this instance it’s an open secret that we’ve made the bid.

‘I think he’s a player who could do very well for us, but we’ll see how the situation develops.’

It may be normal for Wigan to not discuss targets before they have signed, however in this case it’s thoroughly abnormal for them to claim their assistant manager can’t keep his mouth shut before a bid has even been lodged.

The past is irrelevant now though, if the bid is satisfactory then bye bye Emile and thanks for the 4 goals last season. Although, as Wigan’s success last season was based on a hard work ethic and playing the game how it should be played, you have to question why they would want Emile who’s only consistency at Premiership and international level has been in terms of fans knowing he could do so much better and so much more.
