Kerim Frei is a name that has been linked with Birmingham City today and the deal seems to have legs after Besiktas confirmed earlier that talks between the two clubs had begun.

The 23-year-old left winger would give Blues a different option to what we currently have available and is very much someone who likes to get a defenders and dribble.

He is also excellent at keeping the ball close to his feet and using his low centre of gravity to get beyond his opponents.

Frei may only be 5 foot 7 inches in height but does seem to use that to his advantage with short bursts of pace that allows him to get in between defenders.

At present, I would say that Blues need a lot more from their wide men and I think that Frei could be the man to take us forward.

What stands out for me is the experience he has already gained at a young age. He has featured in the Premier League as well as the Champions League and Europa League.

This experience could prove crucial for Blues and the fact that he has already had spells in English football with Fulham and Cardiff should stand him in good stead.

He hasn’t got an amazing record in front of goal but does chip in with the odd couple and, as he continues to develop as a player, I am sure that the goals will come.

It seems that Gianfranco Zola is looking for a tricky winger who can use his pace to get around opponents and into the dangerous areas of the attacking third.

Frei looks to be a player unafraid of taking on his man and I feel like that’s something our current wingers do lack.

Che Adams shows a lot of attacking intent but the likes of Jacques Maghoma and David Cotterill do sometimes hold off or take too long to make their minds up.

The addition of Frei should provide Blues with something completely different to what we currently have and, in my opinion, could prove to be a shrewd piece of business by Zola and the board if the deal does indeed go through.
