Why Joey Barton Would Be Perfect For Blues

It’s now been a couple of days since controversial midfielder Joey Barton has been linked with a move to St Andrews. Blues were supposedly close to making a shock move for an unknown player, that of which would stun the footballing world. It seemed as if Joey Barton fitted the bill. Personally, I don’t think this transfer is likely due to Barton’s very high wage demands, those of which Blues would almost certainly be unable to fulfil.

The fact that Blues have been linked with such a high calibre of player is encouraging, perhaps many feel Joey Barton isn’t the correct type of player which Blues should sign. But, I have come up with some reasons as to why Joey Barton would be perfect for Birmingham City.

Firstly, it now looks unlikely that the Robert Tesche deal will go through due to Blues unable to afford the 500k which is needed to pay up. Joey Barton fills the gap in that midfield which Blues may lack in Tesche not being signed, a player who is quality on the ball and is an all round intelligent footballer. Plus, Joey Barton is a free agent, the only worries Blues would have is whether Barton would take a pay cut. Surely he would love to play for a club such as ours?

Secondly, Barton has huge amounts of experience and loves the game. All he ever does, whether that be on Twitter or on TV is talk football, this could be a great asset in helping nurture the younger players at the club. But I honestly think if we were ever to sign Barton, the fans would fall in love with him. You can’t hide from the fact that Barton is a quality player, or you can’t hide from his controversy, but I do believe that our fans would see past all that and love Barton for exactly who he is. A top class footballer who would be completely committed to whichever club he plays for.

Lastly, I would just like to note that I don’t believe the transfer of Joey Barton to Blues is likely, these are just my views as to why Barton, if he ever did sign, would be perfect for us!
