Who To Get In January?

Now, there has been a lot of speculation about whether Gray will remain a Bluenose ever since we rejected that bid from high flying Bournemouth. But today I wish to focus on the incoming signings. What type of player do we need and who fits the bill?

Speaking to the official bcfc.com site, Gary Rowett has said that he wants to bring in at least 3 players in, but this could be 0 if the offers are not right.

He also goes on to say that he wants to strengthen the attack mainly but the defence is always an area that looks to be depleted in numbers currently.

“We know we need one more extra body as a defender and I think in an ideal world we need two attacking players to give us more goals and more options.’ This shows that he is mindful that we have players who are not performing but can’t be given a rest due to the fact that we have no replacements who can come in and do a job.

I’ve always said that I personally think that Donaldson needs a partner. He needs someone with pace whom can exploit all of his knock downs and clever link up play. For me, I would move Gray there and purchase some fire power on the wing in order to fill this hole. However, I do believe this to be unrealistic so I think that it will be a striker that Gary will look for.

With the temporary addition of Vaughan, which I am really pleased with, the striker situation has improved a little bit but with Donaldson’s injury, it has meant that James has had to lead the line which isn’t his preferred role. In January I’d hope to bring in a young attacker with pace.

I would also add a player into the fullback position and as a centre back. Despite Rowett only saying he will go for one defender, I think we need two. Grounds is tiring and Lowry isn’t ready to make an impact so we need someone who can cover that position. Also, with Robbo getting older, we only really have Spector and Morrison who are good enough at centre half. If an injury occurs, then I would be very concerned. So I think both these positions need addressing.

In January, it is often younger players who are available or ones who have been sat on the bench all season and are fed up. Contracts tend to not have run out and therefore costs are often higher. Therefore I think we will look to the loan market mainly. Cameron Borthwick Jackson from Manchester United would be good on loan. He gets experience and we get a left back who has pace. Whether he is available, I don’t know but it’s always worth a try.

I also like the look of Alex Iwobi from Arsenal. He is a striker who is very prolific at youth level and I’m sure would link up with Toral really well. He can score goals but obviously it is a step up and he may not be ready but it’s better than missing chances that we are already doing.
