Pre season is nearly drawing to a close and at the start of the season everyone was raving about Bluenose keeper Nick Townsend. It now seems that Connal Trueman has slipped ahead of Townsend in the pecking order after being involved regularly throughout pre season whilst Townsend has only featured for the U21’s.

Connal Trueman is a talented young goalkeeper who signed his second professional contract with the club in the summer. He joined the Blues youth set-up seven years ago from his club side Starlands St. Annes. Trueman is one of five professional goalkeepers at the club ahead of the first game of the season.

He impressed enough in the U21 side to be named on the bench against Blackburn Rovers last season after Darren Randolph was unavailable through suspension. Just a month after Trueman was named on the bench in the first team, and more impressive performances in the U21 side, he made his first start at his new loan club Leamington. After making two starts at the club he sadly had his loan cut short due to injury.

Trueman will now look to push on from his positive start to the season. Maybe a loan could be beneficial for the young stopper, especially considering he has Townsend and Jake Weaver to compete with for an U21 starting spot.

Can Trueman follow a long list of quality keepers to play for the club?
