Luke Hubbins is another Blues youngster who’s career has spiralled from the highs of Premier League potential, to the lows of Non League football. Hubbins is a 23 year old winger or full back who signed his first professional deal with Blues in July 2010. After some impressive performances in reserve and youth football in the 2009-10 season, Hubbins earned that first professional deal and was included in the Blues pre season squad in July 2010.

After being included in several friendly squads, Hubbins was sent out for his first loan spell at League 1 side Notts County, along with fellow Blues youngster Jake Jervis. Hubbins managed just two Notts County appearances against Watford and Sheffield Wednesday and his loan was terminated in January 2011. Hubbins spent the rest of the season in the Blues reserve squad but did earn himself a new six month contract.

Upon the arrival of new manager Chris Hughton, Hubbins found himself a regular in the Blues squad during the early stages of the season, he was named on the Blues bench four times in both the Europa league and Championship. He eventually earned himself a new deal to keep himself at the club until the end of the season. The young winger was then loaned out to Conference side Tamworth, where Hubbins made a classy debut before picking up an unfortunate hamstring injury, this would signal the end of his loan and he was soon released by Blues as well.

Hubbins quickly joined newly promoted Conference side AFC Telford, he made a total of 26 appearances and scored two goals, but he couldn’t help Telford fight against relegation back to the Conference North. Hubbins then signed for Worcester City in May 2013, he made 5 appearances for the club before outrageously quitting football for a period of time, Hubbins felt he wasn’t putting in the type of performances that were expected of him and didn’t feel they merited his wage.

After spending the rest of the season out of football, Hubbins signed for Leamington at the start of last season, he didn’t manage an appearance for the Warwickshire based side and eventually left the club in 2015. It seems as if Hubbins has completely fallen out of love with the game.

He is now trialling with Tamworth of the Conference North, he played against ex Blues striker Matt Green whilst taking in 20 minutes of action as a substitute on Saturday. It would be great if the youngster, who was another with great potential could return to play regular competitive football and show what he can do.
