What’s Happened To Koby?

The main issue with the Clark era, except for the lack of points that we gained, was in fact the lack of opportunities for young players! We loaned in Blackett, Thorpe, Ibe and Lingard amongst others. This blocked a potential rise in the youth squad.

This year, Gray, Brown, Arthur and even the likes of Townsend, I thought would be given a chance to shine this season. Even if it is just in glimpses. However, new signings have yet again blocked the show of the young, Gray being the exception.

The player I mostly wanted to see was Arthur. I felt like this seasons was make or break for the talented player. I felt he could flourish as a number 10. Seeing Shinnie on the bench and having a slight injury after a pre-season friendly, I thought that Arthur could step in and make an impression.

The signing of Toral has replicated the Clark era. I’m not saying that I prefer Clark to Rowett, that is by no means the case. But I am disappointed that Gary has looked for a young talent out on loan, no matter how good he is, instead of using talent that has been at the club for years.

Arthur is a player that needs game time but he is just sat in the stands, not really adding to his game. Why not send him out on loan if nothing is being achieved at the club? I don’t really agree with sending players out on loan if it is not healthy for the individual but I can’t stand to see a loanee get straight into the fray instead of Arthur.

I think Arthur needs more strength and to hold the ball up better but arguably he does that better than Davis has been doing. He also needs to contribute a bit more in attack but this comes through understanding the strikers runs and link up play with other team mates. With no opportunities in the team comes a demise of a player.

So with the upcoming cup game against the Gills approaching, will Arthur get a chance? I think he will. As well as the other fringe players such as Maghoma and Brown. It’ll be a good rest for the first team but will this mean that they lose momentum? Would extra game time help the team flow? And is it not a good thing to help the young guys get game time, only to reject them come Saturday? Your thoughts are welcomed.
