Birmingham City have today announced the signing of West Bromwich Albion midfielder Craig Gardner.

The deal that is in place to bring the 30-year-old to St.Andrews is a loan until the end of the current season which will then turn into a permanent one in July for a reported £3 million.

Last week Blues boss Gianfranco Zola expressed his desire to bring Gardner back to the club and revealed that the former League Cup winner also wanted to return to the team he supported as a boy.

Just after Zola confessed to wanting to bring Gardner back to the club, the move seemed to hit a brick wall with both Blues and the Baggies not budging on their estimations of the player or the outlay of the proposed deal.

However, with everything now ironed out, the club have unveiled Gardner as their first official signing in the January transfer window (Lukas Jutkiewicz signed before the window opened).
